Alien Movies

Aliens, or sometimes known as extraterrestrials, have been part of popular culture for some time now. In fact, A Trip to the Moon was the first ever alien movie that appeared way back in 1902. Now, to be fair, things have changed a lot in 115 years. Now, without further ado, here are the top 5 latest alien movies of 2017, presented in chronological order.

5. The Recall

This first entry on our list is a movie you probably haven’t heard about. The Recall is a Canadian-American sci-fi/horror film released on June 3, 2017. The story revolves around five friends on a vacation to a remote lake house somewhere in the mountains. What they aren’t aware of, however, is the fact that Earth is under an alien invasion. Unfortunately, however, The Recall received mostly negative reviews and made only $6,570 on its opening weekend. It has a 4.8/10 score on IMDb and a 2.7/5 audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Nevertheless, Wesley Snipes plays in it, which is interesting, to say the least.

4. Transformers: The Last Knight

Being released on June 21, 2017, Transformers: The Last Knight is the fifth installment in the Transformers series. The plot is nothing worthy to write home about, being, more or less, the same story the fifth time around. The Autobots and Decepticons are at war, again. Humans on the sidelines, again, and Mark Walberg needs to save the world, again. With a budget of $217 million, Transformers: The Last Knight managed a worldwide total of $605.4 million, making it the lowest grossing film in the Transformers series. It has an IMDb score of 5.2/10 and a 3.4/10 critic review on Rotten Tomatoes. We will also be expecting a Bumblebee movie next year and the 7th in the series in 2019.

3. Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

Based on the French science fiction comics series known as Valérian and Laureline, this movie is the most expensive non-American and independent movie ever made. With a budget of $180 million, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets was expecting to gross a total of over $400 million in order to break even and justify a sequel. Unfortunately, however, it was only able to manage a worldwide total of $225.2 million. It is, nevertheless, visually spectacular, being directed by the legendary Luc Besson, the man behind other titles such as The Fifth Element, Lucy, and The Professional. Both Rihanna and Cara Delevingne star in this movie. Its release date was on 21 July 2017.

2. Thor: Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok doesn’t really take itself seriously and neither should you. If you won’t expect too much from it, then you’ll probably enjoy yourself watching it. It is funny and entertaining, earning a total of $650.1 million, surpassing its two other predecessors, and becoming the 10th highest-grossing film of 2017. It received mostly positive reviews from both viewers and critics alike, with Rotten Tomatoes giving it a 92% approval rating and an average score of 7.5/10. On IMDb, it got an 8.2. All in all, a fun movie to watch.

1. Justice League

Justice League had its premiere in Beijing, on October 26, 2017, and was released in North America on November 17, 2017. Starting off strong, with a worldwide opening of $278.8 million, the movie steadily lost momentum and only managed to make a total of total of $489.9 million. This is against a budget of $300 million, mind you. In order to break even, Justice League was expected to gross anywhere in between $600 and 750 million. The movie was received with mixed reviews, with critics praising the action scenes but disapproving of the thin plot. Nevertheless, we get to see Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash, all in one movie.

These have been the latest 5 alien movies of 2017. Luckily, however, the year isn’t over and we are still waiting for Star Wars: The Last Jedi to be released this December. Hopefully, we’ll be in for a treat.
